In Loving Memory of My Father, J. Mark Winger RPh

I just read of Mark's passing in the Chronicle Tribune here in Marion this
morning. First, let me extend my sympathies to you. I worked for Mark in
1969 and 1970 at Berger's Drug Store when I was in High School. While
working there I lost my father to an untimely passing. I was only 16 and I
took his death hard.

Fortunately, for me, Mark was one of those male role models I was lucky
enough to have in my life at the time. In the fall of 1971 I went off to
college and did not return to Marion until 1987. I lost track of Mark and
your family but I never forgot his kindness and his understanding for me at
one of the most difficult times in my life. I had a huge chip on my shoulder
that Mark helped me work through with wit and wisdom.

I think I turned out OK and Mark had something to do with that. I have been
married for 26 years. We have two sons. Ed is a senior at I.U. and applying
to law school for next year. Our youngest, Andrew is a freshman at I.U. I
went into banking and I now serve as President of Union Planters Bank in
Marion and Kokomo. (You probably remember the bank as Marion National). Once
again I share your loss but celebrate the life of one of the most caring
people I ever knew. I only regret I never got to tell Mark.
